I wanted to make a sand game, but to do so quickly became pretty hacky quickly the way I was implementing it in GMS2. This lead me to a dead end with the orginal round shape for the hourglass and amount of sand I desired. This microgame/toy has a looping objective to fill the hourglass with sand. When you reach an amount, you will start over. It lags as you get near the end. More time would be used for optimization maybe, or more "story" or text that changes as you fill the hour glass. I'm going to start time boxing for an hour soon, so I need to shave off another 30 minutes. But the best way to do that involves using base projects that already has a type of mechanic implemented. But there is a novelty starting from a blank project and even making your own simple assets.

I believe approaching this with your own sand falling logic (rather than using the physics engine) would be a good approach.
I did this in: https://qst0.itch.io/marrow-quest with the blood that Marrow makes, but I had problems that ended up making the blood-pixels act differently than I was trying to implement. It might be fun to go back and see what I did, or give it another try. Making it grid based / block like and saving the sand state as data to then render seems like a better way to do this but harder to implement for me.

Oh and I decided to make this accidentally for the 292nd one hour game jam ...
35952 hours late.
